July 20, 2004

I visited the Midwife again today. I’m dilated at 4cm. They’ve scheduled an induction next Monday if I don’t deliver by then.

Mike and I go to the movies (Harry Potter). By 9:00 pm we are home. At 11:30 I awake in full labor with the contractions at 5 minutes apart. The pain is pretty intense, so we rush to the hospital at 2:00 am. Luckily no traffic. When we arrive I’m 7.5 cm dilated. I delivered Isabelle at 9:30 am, on July 21, 2004. Both Mike and I are relieved it’s over. I could not have done it without Mike and the wonderful nurse, Eileen.

Week of July 19th, 2004

July 19 – Monday
Pregnancy continues. Mike and I tried lots of walking, house chores, blueberry picking, socializing, gardening, etc. this weekend, but no baby.

Now that I’m only working a few hours a day, I decided today I would just relax. The rain helps for this.

Week of July 12th, 2004

July 18 – Sunday
I’m pregnant. feeling fine, and just biding my time. Mike and I have done lots of walking and activities, with no results, so the baby is just comfortable staying in my belly.

July 16 – Friday
Good morning! All quiet on the Cooney front.

Yesterday I spoke with my boss. I’m now going to work just a few hours a day until the baby arrives.

July 15 – Thursday
Mike and I took a long walk to and around Shakespeare & Company. No initiating of labor though.

I had some false labor last evening, which stopped in the night. It probably was a cause of my exam earlier yesterday. This baby will come when it wants!

I’m still working, but I may stop shortly.

July 14 – Wednesday
No baby and still pregnant. Everything is fine.

I met with my Mid-wife Pat today. Everything is the same as last week, although this time I gained weight. Pat told me she’ll be on vacation starting Saturday, which surprised and disappointed me.

July 12 – Monday
During a visit with my mid-wife last Thursday, I learned that the baby is very much ready in position and ready to come out. In technical terms, I’m 3″ dilated, 80% effaced, and the baby is in position +1. This is a great start for not feeling any pain.

After the visit, panic struck and because of some slight pain, Mike and I took Friday off. We waited. And waited.

We are still waiting, and both of us are back to work now. We had a terrific weekend though – very relaxing and got lots of necessary rest.

Any day now.

Week of July 5th, 2004

We’ve mostly packed our bag for the hospital and finished all the last minute preparations for the baby. Except for a few items I ordered online, we’re pretty set for the baby. Emotionally of course the preparation needs some work.

This past weekend we spent finishing last minute tasks, or nesting, before the baby arrived. I’m feeling MUCH better now that some of these tasks are complete.

Overall I feel fine. I’m sleeping well enough and luckily the weather has not been too hot. Walking is a bit more cumbersome, but I’m still exercising as much as possible. There is less movement from the baby, but still lots of pokes and prods.

Less than a week to go – maybe!!

Week of June 28-July 4, 2004

Still exercising and feeling the same. I’ve not had a repeat of the contractions, although the Mid-wife said that I’m experiencing Braxton-Hicks often, with each tightening of the belly. Each week I have an appointment to see the mid-wife now. All is fine, and I’ve lost a pound this month, which she says is very normal the last few weeks of pregnancy. Oh, I am experiencing very swollen ankles at night. Wow, very unattractive!!
