Jack is two weeks old. He’s more alert now and stays awake at longer intervals. Unfortunately he still wakes often in the night. Last night I probably maxed at 3 hours of sleep. He’s not cute at night when I’m so tired.
On Tuesday Jack had his 2 week appointment. He already weighed 8lb. 10oz! He’s obviously getting enough milk.
Bella still loves her baby, but she misses her time with me. I’m attempting to spend time with her, but at times when I’m feeding Jack, it’s more difficult.

Jack is a wonderful baby. Thus far he has been mellow and sweet. He sleeps a lot (except at night), and when he is awake he quietly looks around. He does have good lungs though when he is hungry.
Already he has changed. The nursing is going great and Jack is filling out.
Bella loves her new baby, and is often giving him kisses. She still does not like it when he cries, but she is getting better. Every time we pick her up from a nap she says “baby?” in a small sweet voice.
Mike has had this past week off and we’ve really bonded close. We’re going to miss him tomorrow, and he us.
This past week has been a totally different experience from when Isabelle was born. We used to say if we could only get through the first ten days, maybe we’ll survive. Now we’re saying these past ten days have been a blessing.

John Byrne Cooney:
Born: March 8, 2006 at 8:22pm
Weight: 7lbs 7oz
Length: 21 inches
Unlike his sister, Jack decided to arrive twelve days early, where she had been ten days late.
Unexpectedly, my labor began on Wednesday, March 8 at 1:30pm. I was due March 20th.
Our bags still unpacked or names chosen, the baby was making its way. Mike and I headed for the hospital at 5:30. I was still not sure if I was in labor. At 7:00 it was definite. By 8:22pm John “Jack” Byrne Cooney made his arrival. Still in disbelief, we held our son. He was beautiful.
Although early, he weighed 7lbs 7oz, and was 21 inches long. He has light blond hair and very dark eyes. He’s skinny, with a long body, and long toes. He definitely has the look of a Cooney.
I stayed 2 days at the hospital, and missed Isabelle a great deal. Mike stayed with her.
Finally on Friday we were reunited. Isabelle loved her new “baby” from the start. Immediately she hugged and kissed him. Tears are shed when he cries and she laughs every time she looks at him.
What Jack likes to do:
-sleep (except at night)
-nurse
-coo
-gurgle noises

Isabelle’s speed has picked up to a run. She’s now a bit taller now and is able to climb our window seat and various footstools. The couch is still a challenge.
Isabelle now wants to feed herself. She just started one day to spoonfeed. She now eats cereal, and then picks up the bowl to drain the milk. She picked this up on her own!
Her vocabulary is still limited but she’s understanding more every day. She is nodding Yes or No all the time in answer to questions.
Sleeping schedule has changed dramatically. For over a year she slept two naps. One at 9:00am and one at roughly 2:30/3:00. Now it has gone down to one…though for shorter time and who knows when she wants to sleep. This has been going on for two weeks now and she’s SO tired by the end of the day. Mommy too…
Baby-to-be (due 3.20.06)
I am now 38 weeks along (two weeks to go). The baby moves a lot, mostly in the evening. He or She is ACTIVE. Head is already down, though the doctor was not sure immediately. An ultrasound determined it was not breach. The baby’s head must be resting on a nerve because I often get cramps in my leg. Mike and I brought down all the baby stuff and sorted through the clothes. I’ve roughly packed my bag and we’re now settling on a game plan for what to do with bella in the meantime. I’m excited for the baby – really wondering who he or she will be – but also sad because the new little one will take me away somewhat from Bella.
Honestly between being swamped with work from my job and taking care of Isabelle I’ve not had time to think of the new baby. What a difference from the first pregnancy!!
We even still have to pick names…
What Bella likes to do:
-eating by herself
-nodding yes or no
-sitting on frontroom window seat/sill
-hugging stuff animals
